CENTA Fire Fighting Foams

Fire fighting foams are an extinguishing medium used in hazardous areas. Foams have a low viscosity and will spread rapidly across the surface of most fuel based fires. Foam is available in 20L, 200L and 1000L containers.

There are two foam categories:

  1. Those for use on flammable hydrocarbon fuels, such as gasoline, diesel, kerosene, jet fuel, etc, which don’t mix with water (float on top);
  2. Water additives for use on polar solvent or alcohol type fuels, which mix readily with water.
CENTA's Elinex AFFF (Aqueous Film Forming Foam) provides a film barrier that prevents the fire from spreading. CENTA Fire Fighting Foams do not contain Fluoroprotein (FP) which is ineffective against hydrocarbon fires. These brief videos illustrate the difference between AFF and Fluoroprotein (FP) foam or water.

The difference between CENTA’S Aqueous Film Forming Foam (AFFF) vsFluoroprotein (FP) Foams

Aqueous Film Forming Foam (AFFF)

  1. Foam is sprayed on the fire
  2. Foam controls the oxygen
  3. A film forms beneath the foam and covers the flammable liquid
  4. The film cools the combustable fuel, and isolates the liquid from gas
  5. Film stops the formation of flammable vapor, controls heat and burn back
  6. Foam drains into the film
  7. Water cools the liquid

Elinex Aqueous Film Forming Foams (AFFF)

  • Class A & B type fires
  • Oil & gas industry, airports, military, harbours
  • Hydrocarbon fuels
  • Liquid concentrate foam
  • Environmentally friendly

Elinex Alcohol Resistant Foams (AR/AFFF)

  • Chemical and Petro-Chemical plants
  • Polar solvent and hydrocarbon fuels
  • Alcohol resistant
  • Liquid concentrate foam
  • Environmentally friendly

Elinex Hi Expansion Foams

  • Best for ‘flooding’ large areas
  • Coverage Class A fires (wood/paper)
  • Extinguish Class B fires (fuel spills)
  • Detergent based
  • Excellent penetration and superior drainage time
  • Popular choice for fire brigades

Elinex Forest Fire Foams

  • Bush type fires
  • Wetting agent
  • Suitable for Class A Fires (Wood/paper)
  • Sticks to flammable material creating a barrier to enhance the extinguishing process
  • Standard applicators are helicopter buckets, air tankers, fixed ground systems
  • Environmentally safe
